Internet of Things will be a focused subject and theme at RC4 — and the first project proving the concept is that of a smart kitchen. We’ve brought on board two recent graduates from the Ryerson Electrical Engineering Program; Alexandre Doubov and Mustafa Juwaid, to build a kitchen that is responsive to contextual parameters and sensors in order to create customized interactions with standard appliances.
Along with a number of RC4 Computer Engineers, Alexandre and Mustafa will be developing an Internet-like structure composed of various objects from our existing kitchen including a coffee maker, toaster oven and microwave. The team has purchased a number of sensors that integrate with cloud services and function as the input for a number of parameters including temperature, orientation and other customizable inputs. By the end of this project, RC4 will have a context-aware kitchen that can deliver customized results for each user through remote controls such as a tablet or mobile phone.
