What is the RC4 Data Centre?
A complex build which began March 2013, the RC4 data centre ensures high-performance, reliability and scalability features for all affiliated RC4 projects. Ready for use in the Fall, this system will enable teams to build their own software utilizing modern cloud concepts with scalability and performance in mind. As RC4 grows year-after-year, our infrastructure plans have been designed to accommodate our needs for the years to come.
Why a Private Cloud?
The cloud is designed to address the specific needs of context-aware and location-aware mobile services that impose complexities on servers. RC4 is designed to enable and facilitate the design and development for the “Web of Things” applications which differentiates RC4’s cloud from other available cloud platforms at other Universities and Institutions. The Network has been architected by Mehdi Kianpour, a Ryerson MEng graduate and has over 15 years experience in Network Design.
Core Elements of the Cloud Infrastructure:
- Blade servers
- Storage system
- Networking infrastructure
- Electrical, cooling infrastructure
- Virtualization platform
- Cloud software (Vmware, vCloud)
- Security systems
